AVON, NY - On Thursday, July 28, 2010, at 7:36 a.m., Avon Fire and EMS were dispatched to a vehicle, into a building at the Avon, on the Green senior citizen apartment complex.
The accident occurred when a 49-year-old man suffered a seizure while driving, causing the vehicle to drive through a park, on the village's traffic circle and crashed into a first-floor apartment. The apartment was occupied by an 81-year-old man, who was trapped under debris.
Mutual aid was requested to the scene from the East Avon Fire Department, as well as additional ambulances from Henrietta, Honeoye Falls, Livonia and Livingston County ALS.
Both victims were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where the occupant of the apartment was listed in guarded condition and the driver was in stable condition.
The buildings other residents were evacuated and were assisted with temporary shelter by the Northern Livingston County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
